THE WINE
Where the Estate Shiraz is bright and purple fruited, this Tribute Shiraz is all about darker brooding fruits and spice, the more serious big brother. Aromatics of black currant and mulberry fruits combine with subtle dried spice and white pepper. Entering the voluminous palate, dark concentrated fruits flow into a fine tannin structure. The wine is rich and long, whilst remaining refined and elegant in its reflection of the cool Yarra climate.
THE VINTAGE
An uncharacteristic growing season, one of the most challenging vintages with breaking monthly rainfall records, high humidity, and disease pressure. Improved weather conditions were welcomed in January providing good ripening conditions. Although crops were down a little, fruit quality has been high resulting in elegant wines
VITICULTURE + WINEMAKING
Selected rows comprised of Bests Old Block and Tahbilk clones from our north facing ‘F’ block on the hill. Fruit was harvested in the early dawn for to ensure the coldest fruit temperature. Transferred from harvest bins and destemmed into open top fermenters, the cold fruit start gave rise to a slow fermentation start prolonging skin contact time. Hand plunged and gently pumped over, then pressed upon sugar dryness. Racked to, and predominantly aged in seasoned French puncheons with 14% new oak. Maturation was for 9 months on light lees, prior to blending and bottling.
