THE WINE
Fresh perfumed aromatics of dark purple plum and deep red cherry fruit, layered with ripe spices. A concentrated palate of ripe currant and dark cherry with a generosity of berry fruits, are enhanced by a firm tannin structure underpinning the fruit and flowing the full palate length. A lovely balanced and medium depth wine, full of flavour.
THE VINTAGE
An uncharacteristic growing season, one of the most challenging vintages with breaking monthly rainfall records, high humidity, and disease pressure. Improved weather conditions were welcomed in January providing good ripening conditions. Although crops were down a little, fruit quality has been high resulting in elegant wines.
VITICULTURE + WINEMAKING
Selected from our Tahbilk, S5 and Bests clones, planted on the warm north facing ‘F’ block, the wine was produced separately in small batches. The fruits were fermented in open pots, of which one had a ‘sandwich’ layer of whole bunches. Each ferment started with a cold soak, and once fermenting was hand plunged, before being pressed at dryness. Batched separately and matured in large format French oak for 9 months.
FOOD MATCH
Slow cooked shoulder of lamb, Jerusalem artichokes, salsa verde, Yarra Valley fetta
